Reach is a proud partner for Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean campaign. Launched 10 years ago by the national environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, the initiative started as a one-off event in 2016.
The Great British Spring Clean and Great Big School Clean 2025 will take place from 21 March to 6 April and includes the Spring Clean Cymru in Wales on 21 March – 6 April and Spring Clean Scotland in Scotland on 21st March – 21 April, and you can pledge to pick up a bag of litter – or more – from today.
Love Where You Live
According to Keep Britain Tidy:
“In a YouGov survey carried out on our behalf ahead of the Great British Spring Clean, more than 31.6 million people said ‘litter-free’ streets would help them love where they live – and 72% of UK adults said seeing litter makes them less proud of their neighbourhood.”
The Great British Spring Clean enables people to be proactive in their communities by encouraging them to pledge to collect litter from the local area, school, and workplace.
Last year alone, 326,000 people across Britain pulled on their gloves, grabbed their litter pickers and pledged to clean up their communities, filling an amazing 425,000 bags of rubbish.
Over 30 million tonnes of litter are dropped yearly, costing an estimated £ 1 billion annually to clear up – money that could be spent on other public services, such as social care and education.
Litter also harms animals and birds, who eat or get trapped in plastic bags and injured by broken glass and tin cans dumped in their habitat.
This year, Keep Britain Tidy is spreading the word that the environment belongs to everyone. Since the campaign launched, millions of people from communities, faith groups, schools, businesses, and local authorities have united to help tackle litter – everyone has a role to play.
Community is at the heart of Reach; our network of news sites reaches people where they live, work, and play day-to-day. Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said:
“We’re incredibly excited to see our charity uniting with Reach throughout the Great British Spring Clean to recognise and celebrate an army of extraordinary British people who are passionate about where they live.
“We share strong values around engaging communities and protecting the environment, and through our partnership and Reach’s proven national and regional connections with local communities, we hope to inspire a whole host of audiences – including councils, schools and the business community – into action across our villages, towns and cities.”
Lisa Cameron, Reach’s Regional Commercial Director, said:
“We are so thrilled to be working with Keep Britain Tidy on the Great British Spring Clean initiative, a brilliant campaign that inspires so many people across the UK to make their local spaces better for everyone.
“With our portfolio of national and local titles, we have been able to get this message straight into the hearts of communities and look forward to seeing the impact it will have this year.”
So far this year, 262,746 bags of litter have been pledged. You can pledge as a business, a school or an individual. To learn more and pledge, visit the Great British Spring Clean.
The Great British Spring Clean is made possible thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery, media partners the Mirror and Clear Channel, headline partner Calisen Impact Charitable Trust and supporting partners KFC, Mars Wrigley, McDonald’s, Nestlé, Pepsi Max and Walkers.
