In partnership with Pride of Britain, famous faces including Sir Trevor McDonald and Alesha Dixon share personal stories, marking 75 years since the arrival of Empire Windrush.
75 years ago today, the Empire Windrush ship landed at Tilbury Docks in Essex. The men and women who stepped ashore were pioneers for a group of people who transformed Britain – the Windrush Generation.
ITV1, in association with The Daily Mirror Pride Of Britain Awards with TSB, has premiered a prime time special film to celebrate the Windrush generation and their contribution to our island story.
Sir Trevor McDonald, Mel B, Alesha Dixon, Judi Love and HRH The Prince of Wales met with members of the Windrush Generation to hear their inspirational real life Windrush stories, which are at the heart of the film – along with plenty of uplifting Pride of Britain surprise moments.
Produced by Multistory Media in association with the Daily Mirror Pride Of Britain Awards team, the show will be broadcast on ITV1 later this year.
It features inspirational Windrush contributors, whose remarkable and engaging stories and achievements reflect the wider Windrush story. Each contributor received an invitation to the 2023 Pride of Britain Awards in October, where they will represent the Windrush Generation on stage to receive a special Award on their behalf.
Alison Phillips, editor of the Daily Mirror said: ‘We are delighted to be working with ITV on this hugely important documentary to highlight the achievements – and challenges – members of the Windrush Generation and their descendants have faced in this 75th anniversary year. We hope it brings the very best values of Pride of Britain to a documentary which will entertain, inspire and challenge us all.’
